Has anybody else been watching this? This is proving to be one of the best dramatic TV shows in a very long time. I started watching this about 1/3 the way through Season 1 and am hooked.

Funny you mention that. I think there was a polar bear in the first season. There have been several other sitings as well. In a flashback, Mike had given Walt a stuffed bear (looked like a white polar bear) after he signed away full custody to his ex-wife. Also, last night I saw two polar bears in the Orientation video. In a show like Lost, this has to mean something. I don't think anything in this show is without some bearing to the story. It's a very well orchestrated puzzel for the audience. Every question is answered with what usually ends up to be more questions. Every episode ends in a cliff hanger.

On another forum, somebody posted these links:
http://www.oceanic-air.com/

There's some cool hidden things on these pages. Check out the seating chart page on the Oceanic-Air site. There's quite a bit of cool stuff hidden there. The Oceanic Air page also has a hidden message under the Important Announcement on the home page. It's in two parts, but you can still get to some of it to copy it. At any rate, I found this in View Source...
If anyone should find this message, please get word I'm alive and stranded on an island somewhere in the South Pacific. Please send help soon. Things are bad. And they're getting worse...
I survived a horrific plane crash and am stranded on an island somewhere Northeast of Australia and Southwest of Hawaii. In the event that I am never found, please forward word of my fate to my parents.
On the Hanso Foundation site, there is a link to the Orientation video (at least part of the video). Go to the Adtive Projects page, and hover just under the last project. a link to Dharma Initiative becomes visible.

Piece mealing from things I've found on the net about Lost. The first is some very interesting math. Hurley won the lottery with the numbers he got from the guy in the ward. 4-8-15-16-23-42. Those numbers were also on the hatch door. They are the same numbers that are used to reset the clock to 108 minutes. If you add up 4+8+15+16+23+42 you get 108. Now... this is where it gets odd. The orientation video said that a team of scientists were to stay Station 3 (The Swan) for 540 days. I thought at first it was a rounded figure for a year and a half. However, if we start playing with numbers again, we find that 108 x 5 = 540. So now the question begs, what is the signifigance of the 5 in this equation?
Another question regarding the video. There's a very obvious break in the film when he is talking about entering the code in the huge as fuck "micro" computer. Dr Candle says "Do not attempt to use the microcomputer for anyth... <break> Congratulations...". I'm curious if there is something missing there they should know about.
Also, watch the video again here (http://www.thehansofoundation.org/videostream.swf), then think back to the Degroots, or "boatbillies" as they've been referred to (the alleged "Others" who took Walt) and then look at this picture (http://humpys.net/images/thedegroots.jpg).
One more tangent... There is no coincidince in Hurley's source for those numbers. I am quite willing to guess that the reason that man from the psych ward kept repeating them is because he had spent time at Station 3, punching in those numbers every 108 minutes for 540 days.

hahahaha!!! If you try and follow this thread and you haven't been keeping up with the show, there is a very good chance your head is going to explode like that dude from Scanners. As it is, I am going to have to probably buy the first season DVD to fill in some missing blanks and refresh my memory for some of the stuff that's been happening.

The show is definately intricate, well thought out, well scripted and very well acted.
The math stuff from Phaed is mind-boggling indeed, but it's just the kind of thing to be thrown into the show to keep you guessing.
Also, next week, the Asian guy ( Chin ) speaks English for the first time.... fluently. He's been hiding that from everybody.

On the oceanic air site after you view the graphic of the plane disentigrating, an anagram pops up. ETHAN ROM. I Googled it and found the following thoughts from another message board:
isn't Ethan Rom an anagram?
Other Man (he is/was one of The Others, right?)
More Than... (like everyone else, there's more to Ethan than what we know...)
Another M (M as in Mystery, another mystery...)
Monthera (like Mothra, only a different sort of monster)
I dunno... just thought his name was weird but purposefully weird, as it is some sort of anagram or clue, to.. something...
And this was the story synopsis:
Ethan first appears as someone who is helping Locke hunt wild boar. When Hurley conducts a census, he finds that Ethan is not on the manifest. When the survivors go to look for him, he has vanished. He returns to kidnap Claire. He leaves Charlie hanging from a tree because he only wanted Claire's baby. When the survivors continue to search for Claire, he gives Jack a good beating and a warning that he will kill Claire if they continue to search for her.
Claire manages to escape, but cannot remember anything. Ethan then isolates Charlie and tells him to return Claire or he will kill one survivor each night until he does. The survivors try to set up security, but Ethan comes in by water and kills one. The next day, Claire agrees to act as bait while Jack, Kate, Locke, Sawyer and Sayid set a trap. This time, Jack gets the better of Ethan. However, before they can question Ethan, he is shot dead by Charlie.
Now I didn't see most of the first season ( only half actually ) but there's more here than we know ( as usual ) with the others. Remember the French woman kept talking about them as if they'd been there all along. And do you think she might be part of the whole Experiment? Maybe one of the scientists from the bunker that left?
Oh yeah, Phaed, there were to be onlt TWO scientists per shift of 540 days in the bunker, not 5. There may be nothing to that math... but it IS still kinda weird that it all adds up.
Anyone else have any thoughts here?

I don't think the dregoons are the same as the scientists that are IN Station 3. I think these are more monitors of the station (perhaps more safety features from the "incident"). My guess is that once Foundation was shut down they had nothing left to do/go to for fear of possible repurcussions. Perhaps the incident refered to by the Orientation Video was ratting out to government(s). I did find it odd that the Hanso Foundation was secretive and harped so much on this whole Utopian scientist society.

Google. Fucking google. Why in the hell didn't I think of this prior to, but check it... Plug the numbers 4 8 15 16 23 42 into google and check the first link (or simply try "I'm feeling lucky". You are taken to a map with the cooridinates to an island between Austrailia and Hawaii. THAT'S the signifigance to the combination! It's the actual Longitude Lattitude cooridinates to the exact location on the island..

Well.... last night's episode was droll up until the last 10 minutes. When the events unfolded at the last of the show, my wife and I were looking at the screen with amazed looks on our faces. The writers of this show keep surprising the viewers and it just keeps getting better.
Next week, the other side of the island.... the tail section survivors' story is shown.
Oh, and the writer/playwright that died durign the crash had a supposed manuscript he handed off to his publisher/producer before the flight took off...and it is now becoming a REAL production.

I felt the "love story" between Sayid and Shannon seemed a bit forced, from a production perspective. However, everybody who hates Michelle Rodriguez (Ana Lucia) may get their wish, as I think he just may kill that bitch. Also, I felt there could've been a better way to off Shannon than an Oh shit! M'bad" accidental shooting.
Now... the Island, the others, and wtf Walt? So far, I have been able to discern NOTHING distinguishable from any of the whispers heard. I am starting to think that the whispers (and walt) are mental projections which are only heard/seen in the person's mind. One of the reasons I say this is because I believe Sayid would've been able to find Walt's tracks in the sand. Since there was no mention of this (coupled with his unwilngness to believe Shannon), we would have to assume that there was no physical evidence.

Episode 2.10 last night was The 23rd Pslam about Mr Eko. The most telling part about this episode is the confrontation between the Security System (whispy black smoke thing that sounds like a machine and blows up trees) and Eko. You catch a glimpse of quite a number of things in the black smoke that are images from Eko's past, and possibly one from his future (where he finds his deceased brother in the plane). Here is a link to some pretty good hi-def images from that episode.

okay... I just finished watching the first season... DVD... I think it is starting to make more sence now. I have missed most of the second season... how many episodes are they into the second season? and does anyone know what the "security system" is at this point... Lock seems infatuated with it.

Tonight (wednesday the 18th) will be the 11th episode of season 2. The Security System was the big tell last week when we actually got to see what it looks like. Also, we got to see that it can read and analyze a person's thoughts. However, we don't yet know what it is, but there are a few theories. The most popular of which is that it is actually a technological entity made up of nanobots. My theory is based more on that it is an anomolyous entity based on the island's very unique magnetic qualities. Some theories are that the nanobot monster was created by and may be controlled by "the others", however I am more inclined to see it the other way around.
Whatever it is, it is either very territorial, or it is confined to the areas it guards. It doesn't venture onto the beaches where the lostaways are, and it also does not go near the spring where the other lostaways are. Also, it never messed with Danielle's shack. Tonight should be good as it seems to be the first "confrontation" between the Others and the lostaways as well as something goes down with Michael as he may turn violent against his fellow lostaways.

I stopped watching a while ago. Seems to me that it's one of those shows that just keeps thinking up more and more stuff that leads to viewer questions which the producers will never answer.
Think along the lines of The Matrix: Reloaded and The Matrix: Revolutions. Years later I can still smell the shit off those movie reels.

I was thinking that the monster was something magnetic. the loud mechanical sounds that can be heard when it is in the area make me think that it is comming from under ground.
Why is Michael going to turn violent? Is he becomming "sick" like the French chick said her original companions did?
Phaedrus
01-18-2006, 06:57 PM
We have about an hour till we find out. :). He's not getting sick. He is obsessed with finding Walt (what dad wouldn't?) who has allegedly been communicating with Michael on the computer.

The Gorton Fish dude really pissed him off by threatening to kill kate and of course kidnapping Walt. I liked the episode as it was all very grounded in the here and now -- A stark contrast to the last episode with Eko's confrontation with the monster.

Lost Goes to the Comics (http://news.yahoo.com/comics/monty;_ylt=AlGdxWDKYTJAUKgZ0A0wdicH_b4F;_ylu=X3oDM TBiMW04NW9mBHNlYwMlJVRPUCUl)
Well... not sure what to make of this but I have liked Monty for a while. To set his up, he mistook a Senior Citizen cruise for a Singles cruise and wound up falling over board chasing after a coupon for a two-for-one meal at Arby's. This is where he ends up....
We'll see what tomorrow's comic brings.
Oh and by the way, tonight we see another hatch for the first time.

Tonight's episode is Maternity Leave. Libby unlocks Claire's mind, revealing what happened when she was adbucted by Ethan. Should be good, though I'm sure more questions will be presented than answered (as usual).
